Sustainable cocoa starts with commitment to the people at the root of the ingredient.
At Fuji Oil Europe, we believe creating a more sustainable cocoa supply chain means going beyond ingredients and certifications. It means helping strengthen the livelihoods of cocoa farming communities, supporting more resilient agricultural practices and contributing to a future where children belong in school, not in labour.
Over the years, we have increased responsible sourcing, long-term partnerships and targeted community initiatives to contribute to a chocolate sector that works better for both people and planet.
Today, our products containing cocoa ingredients can either be certified FAIRTRADE or RAINFOREST ALLIANCE.

Why It Matters
Cocoa is one of the world’s most loved ingredients. But cocoa-growing communities continue to face complex challenges.
Many cocoa farming families in West Africa still live below a living income. Low and unstable incomes can contribute to broader issues such as:
- Limited access to education
- Child labour risks
- Vulnerability to climate change
- Reduced economic resilience for farming households
At the same time, cocoa farming communities are at the heart of a supply chain that millions depend on.
Creating meaningful change requires collaboration across the value chain. That means supporting initiatives that address root causes and help farming families build stronger, more resilient futures.
Our Approach
At Fuji Oil Europe, our cocoa sustainability efforts focus on practical action and long-term impact.
Responsible Sourcing
We work with recognised sustainability frameworks and certified supply chains to help improve transparency and support better environmental and social practices.
Approximately 50% of Fuji Oil Group’s cocoa is currently procured under Rainforest Alliance and Fairtrade certification, helping contribute to better farming conditions and fairer value distribution in cocoa-producing regions.
By 2030, the Fuji Oil Group has set ambitions to:
- Help eliminate child labour risks within the cocoa supply chain
- Support reforestation efforts in cocoa-growing regions
- Contribute to more sustainable livelihoods for cocoa farming communities through responsible sourcing practices and partnerships
Fuji Oil Europe x Oxfam: Supporting Living Income in Cocoa Communities
Creating impact where cocoa begins
Fuji Oil Europe is a sponsor of Oxfam Belgium’s Living Income project in Côte d’Ivoire, supporting cocoa farming families through Oxfam’s Bite to Fight programme in collaboration with cocoa cooperative CPR Canaan in Daloa.
The partnership focuses on one important goal:
Supporting stronger livelihoods for cocoa farmers and their families
The project addresses some of the structural challenges that cocoa communities face by investing in:
🤍 Women’s economic empowerment
🤍 Financial education and leadership
🤍 Income diversification
🤍 Education access
🤍 Child labour prevention
Our contribution specifically supports activities aimed at strengthening household resilience and helping create conditions in which farming families can thrive.
How the project creates impact
Women’s savings groups (AVEC)
Village Savings and Loan Associations (AVECs) bring women together to strengthen financial independence and create opportunities for additional income-generating activities.
Through training, savings mechanisms and entrepreneurship support, women gain greater access to financial resources and leadership opportunities within their communities. Activities include vegetable gardening, rice cultivation and small-scale livestock farming.
Helping children access education
In Côte d’Ivoire, children without a birth certificate are often unable to enrol in school.
To help address this barrier, the project finances birth certificates for vulnerable children, enabling (re-)enrolment into education systems and contributing to long-term child labour prevention.
Membership in the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF)
Fuji Oil has been a member of the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) since 2012. The World Cocoa Foundation aims for the sustainable development of the cocoa industry and conducts activities to support farmers under the WCF’s Commitment.
